I'm an Integrative Counsellor based in East Sussex

About me

I am originally from the West Country, born in the City of Bath.

After many years working for a variety of manufacturing companies in South West England, I began working in the charity sector in East London in 2007. I subsequently continued working for charities in the South East and continue to do so with a focus on fundraising for demanding causes.

In 2016 I completed my training and qualified as a counsellor. Since then I have worked for specialist counselling services in Kent and East Sussex as well as in my own private practice.

Since qualifying I have developed specific expertise in therapeutic practice focusing on trauma, complex post traumatic stress disorder, sexual abuse, substance dependence, self-harm and suicidal ideation.

My training was in the ‘Integrative’ orientation, this allows me to use a wide variety of therapeutic techniques and approaches and provides a much broader range of options for responding to the needs of my clients.

What is counselling?

Counselling is also referred to as ‘talking therapy’ and involves clients meeting with a trained counsellor or therapist to explore issues, feelings, emotions or particular circumstances in their daily life that they find challenging or difficult and that are having an effect on their mental health or wellbeing.

Following an initial assessment appointment, the client and counsellor meet weekly for a 50 minute session, concentrating upon the priorities and aims identified by the client during the assessment.

Counselling sessions will concentrate upon exploring the challenges and difficulties being experienced by clients, thereby enabling them to understand themselves and others more effectively. In turn this will allow clients to develop practical methods and strategies for coping better, remaining safe and healthy.

The BACP (British Associaton for Counselling and Psychotherapy) is the regulatory body for the counselling profession and has some very useful information on its website related to counselling and its benefits.
